AFEC-AAUP has negotiated four contracts on behalf of affiliated faculty at Emerson College. In August 2019, the members in good standing voted on a Memorandum of Agreement and changes to the previous contract to affirm a 5-year contract (2019-2024) between the Affiliated Faculty of Emerson College, American Association of University Professors (AFEC-AAUP) and Emerson College.
The contract’s terms are in effect with the Fall 2019 academic semester. The full contract (39 pages) is available as a PDF: 2019-2024 AFEC-AAUP contract. We will be adding a chart for the Steps to this document.
Our new contract covers academic freedom, reappointment policies, salary and benefits including medical and dental plans, performance evaluation, grievance procedures, and faculty responsibilities. It also includes:
- A professional development fund of $15,000 annually, for adjunct faculty to apply for up to $1,500 reimbursement for travel costs and fees for conferences, workshops, and festivals.
- Tuition remission for eligible faculty for graduate classes and online classes.
- A transit subsidy benefit.
- A 403(b) retirement plan, starting in the Fall 2020 semester.
Salary information, including the minimum wages the College pays per credit, is listed in Article 4 of the contract. Salary minimums have increased each year since the contract was executed. The College can always pay more than the minimum — this is explicitly written into the contract language.
